The vehicle is considerably heavier than a long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class, but it handles well, even when taking tight turns. The battery sits low in the body, reducing drag losses.

This new performance-oriented EV is based on the MEB platform developed by the Volkswagen Group. While the rear electric motor provides propulsion, a front-mounted motor gives extra traction and acceleration. Both the ID.4 GTX Max share the same 77-kWh battery pack. The GTX Max is a bit more expensive than the VW ID.4 GTX, but will still achieve 310 miles of range before needing to recharge. The D.4 GTX SUV has 90 horsepower and a 0-to-60-mph time of under 4.4 seconds.
