USA 2023 Green Card Lottery: Start Date, Application, Result & Official Website

The Department of State oversees the Diversity Immigrant Visa program, which aims to improve immigrant diversity in the country of residence. The Diversity Visa program annually awards permanent residency (commonly known as a “green card”) to over 50,000 persons who are chosen at random and exclusively come from nations that don’t send many immigrants to the United States. It is a means of obtaining a green card for individuals and families who would not otherwise be able to legally move to the United States. The Diversity Visa lottery also referred to as the “green card lottery,” is free to enter and simply necessitates the completion of a brief online form.

You can enter the lottery every year between early October and early November. A computer randomly selects the receivers of the green cards, along with their close family members. Under the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV Program), immigrants from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States are eligible for up to 50,000 immigrant visas each year. These candidates are selected at random from all submissions. The DV Program is managed by the U.S. Department of State. The majority of lottery winners are foreign nationals who enter the country via consular procedures and the issuing of an immigrant visa.

DV Lottery 2023

The winners of the DV-2023 diversity lottery have been recorded and contacted by the Kentucky Consular Center in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Up to 55,000 permanent resident visas are made available each year to people from nations with low rates of immigration to the US through the Diversity Lottery Program, which is run by the secby Immigration and Nationality Act.

After being registered and informed, about 119,262 individuals are now eligible to apply. This higher number should guarantee that all DV-2023 numbers will be used during the fiscal year 2023 because it is anticipated that some of the initial 55,000 registrants won’t pursue their claims for visa issuance (October 1, 2022, until September 30, 2023).

Eligibility Criteria

For a candidate to change their status under the DV Program, you must demonstrate that you:

  • been chosen in DOS’s lottery for a diversity visa;
  • When submitting an adjustment request (Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status), the applicant must: Have an immigrant visa immediately available; and Be admitted to the United States.

Visa Availability

Check the most recent DOS Visa Bulletin to see if a visa is still available. An availability chart for visas under the Diversity Immigrant category for the current month can be seen in Section B. The chart illustrates the cut-off for diverse immigrants. Visas will be issued that month for applicants with Diversity Immigrant lottery rank numbers below the designated cut-off numbers for their respective geographic areas once the cut-off has been reached.

The Diversity Immigrant category rank cut-offs for the following month are displayed in a chart in Section C, which serves as a notice of the Diversity Immigrant visa’s availability in advance. Anyone with a rank number lower than the rank cut-off number depicted in Section C is qualified to submit an adjustment of status application as soon as a monthly Visa Bulletin is released.
