Happy National Grandparents Day 2022: Best Wishes, Quotes, HD Images & Sayings

It is not a public holiday on National Grandparents Day. It occurs on September 11, 2022, a Sunday, and most businesses in the US Open as usual on that day. The first Sunday following Labor Day is Grandparents Day, a recognized national holiday that was established by President Johnson on August 3, 1978.

We also have a whole day set out for our grandparents, just as on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Children that spend time with their grandparents tend to live longer and are more emotionally stable as a result of this special relationship. Grandparents Day provides an opportunity to cherish that bond and spend time as a family. On this day, grandparents and their grandkids are honored for their special relationship.

According to the statute, the goal of the holiday is “to commemorate grandparents, to provide grandparents with an opportunity to demonstrate love for their children’s children, and to assist children in realizing the support, wisdom, and direction that older people can provide.”

Who Was the Inventor of National Grandparents Day?

In 1970, a West Virginia homemaker named Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade started the movement to designate a special day for grandparents.

Marian McQuade observed how many nursing home residents appeared to be forgotten in 1956 while working to plan a neighborhood celebration for seniors over 80. She became the catalyst behind West Virginia becoming the first state to proclaim a Grandparents’ Day in 1973 because she wanted to recognize all grandparents and bring attention to those who were often overlooked. When President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation in 1978, it turned the observance into a federal holiday, catapulting her and others into the national spotlight. He acknowledged Marion McQuade as the organization’s founder and said, “I urge each citizen to pause and think on the role his grandparents have had in molding his own destiny.” Additionally, Carter focused on the impact his grandparents’ generation had left on our modern civilization.

The identical proclamation for National Grandparents Day was written by President Barack Obama in 2016, with the remark, “Let us continue to show them [our grandparents] the same honor they have shown us.” Despite being declared a national holiday, it is more of an observation than a public holiday, and card companies claim that the day generates less money than nine other holidays, including St. Patrick’s Day.
