History Of National Flag Day
The Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act on June 14, 1777, which established “the flag of the thirteen United States” as the official national flag. The act stated: “Resolved, That the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union is thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” Although Flag day is not an official federal holiday, it is recognized as an important day in American history.
