The Civic Type R, exclusively available as a hatchback, is based on the more refined 11th-generation Civic, which was covered separately. Similar to the previous model, the new Civic Type R has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 315 horsepower & 310 pound-feet of torque.
The six-speed manual transmission of the front-wheel-drive Type R has been strengthened to handle more power. Honda has increased brake cooling to help it withstand the abuse of track days. The CTR’s new 19-inch wheels were made in Japan with an Ohio-sourced motor.

Although the new CTR’s chassis is bigger, its muscles have expanded to fit smaller 19-inch wheels with larger Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The CTR’s revised 315 horsepower turbocharger 2.0-liter engine with a six-speed manual tranny provides nine more horsepower and 15 more pound-feet of torque. Since the lap recording with performance monitoring can now be accessible via the car’s 9.0-inch infotainment display, the Type R’s onboard datalogger never takes a smartphone app longer.

It is competitive because its performance is its beginning price. The CTR is less expensive than the Volkswagen Golf R and almost as expensive as the base Toyota Supra because there aren’t many more options beyond its initial MSRP. Fuel Efficiency and Actual MPG
According to the EPA, the little increase in horsepower found in the 2017 Civic Type R doesn’t come at the expense of fuel efficiency. Cool EPA estimates for the Hot Hat’s city and highway mileage are 22 mpg and 28 mpg, respectively. When equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, it equals the EPA figure for the all-wheel-drive Golf R. But the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gives the Golf R an advantage with an additional 2 mpg on the interstate.
2024 Honda Civic Type R Interior
The inside of the 2017 Civic Type R is more basic than the one it replaces. But it still boasts plenty of sexy visual cues. The latter has faux carbon fiber trim, red highlights, and the same supportive and comfortable front seats. Before burning your hand on the metal gear knob, be mindful of the surrounding temperature.
A row of shifting light indications is located atop the new computerized cluster to help prevent bumping against the redline between shifts. Because the 2024 Honda Civic Type R has the same passenger and baggage capacity as the standard Civic hatchback. It should be a fantastic dual-purpose vehicle.
