Although the 2024 Honda Civic Type R appearance is more subdued than its avant-garde predecessor, it should nonetheless be more thrilling to drive. The Civic Type R, which is exclusively available as a hatchback, is based on the more refined 11th-generation Civic, which was covered separately. Similar to the previous model, the new Civic Type R has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 315 horsepower & 310 pound-feet of torque.
The six-speed manual transmission of the front-wheel-drive Type R has been strengthened to handle more power, and Honda has increased brake cooling to help it withstand the abuse of track days. The CTR new 19-inch wheels, which were made in Japan with an Ohio-sourced motor, should start leaving the dealership lot later this autumn and will come in five posh hues, including the fabled 2024 Honda Civic Type R Championships White.
It’s no secret that Honda’s hottest new hatchback intends to deliver the same excitement the last vehicle offered, except with more power and finer looks next time around. We haven’t put a fresh 2023 Honda Civic Type R via our rigorous testing method yet. Although the new CTR’s chassis is bigger, its muscles have expanded to fit smaller 19-inch wheels with larger Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Additionally, the front and back tracks are wider, which enhances brake cooling.
The CTR’s revised 315 horsepower turbocharger 2.0-liter engine with a six-speed manual tranny provides nine more horsepower and 15 more pound-feet of torque. Since the lap recording with performance monitoring can now be accessible via the car’s 9.0-inch infotainment display, the Type R’s onboard datalogger never longer takes a smartphone app.
2024 Honda Civic Type R Cost as well as which one to purchase
Is competitive because its performance is its beginning price. The CTR is not only less expensive than the Volkswagen Golf R, but it is also almost as expensive as the base Toyota Supra because there aren’t many more options available beyond its initial MSRP. The most potent Civic Type R is essentially an inexpensive sports vehicle with five doors, yet individual choice will determine whether two seats are preferable to four.
2024 Honda Civic Type R Performance – Engine, Transmission, and Other
The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that powers the 2019 Civic Type R will remain the same, but a reworked turbocharger and an improved exhaust system have upped output power to 315 hp at 6500 pm and 310 pound-feet of torque between 2600 to 4000 rpm. Additional upgrades for the Civic Type R include a bigger radiator and better brake cooling. To enhance the four-cylinder symphony of the automobile, Honda also raised the RPM that the active exhaust opens. Rowing at the new CTR’s six-speed manual transmission should be made more rewarding by a lighter flywheel and an improved rev-match mechanism.
The Honda will continue to employ its cutting-edge dual-axis strut front suspension, which performs an excellent job of reducing body roll. The next Civic Type R doesn’t have the same radical styling, but it still has a large back wing, other aerodynamic additions, and 19-inch wheels with gripping Michelin Pilot Sport 4S performing tires. We can’t wait to attach our test equipment to the Honda Civic Type R and evaluate its capabilities. We’ll update this story when we have the chance with test results & driving impressions.
Fuel efficiency and actual MPG
According to the EPA, the little increase in horsepower found in the 2017 Civic Type R doesn’t come at the expense of fuel efficiency. Cool EPA estimates for the hot hatch’s city and highway mileage are 22 mpg and 28 mpg, respectively. When equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, it equals the EPA figure for the all-wheel-drive Golf R, but the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gives the Golf R an advantage with an additional 2 mpg on the interstate.
2024 Honda Civic Type R Cargo, Comfort, and the Interior
The inside of the 2017 Civic Type R is more basic than the one it replaces, but it still boasts plenty of sexy visual cues. The latter has faux carbon fiber trim, red highlights, and the same supportive and comfortable front seats. Before burning your hand on the metal gear knob, be mindful of the surrounding temperature. A row of shifting light indications is located on top of the new computerized cluster to help prevent bumping against the redline in between shifts. Because the 2024 Honda Civic Type R has the same amount of passenger and baggage capacity as the standard Civic hatchback, it should be a fantastic dual-purpose vehicle.
