New 2024 BMW i8 M: Full Specs, Price, Release Date & Engine. The next-generation i8 is already in development, and BMW’s Vision M Next concept from mid-2019 is evidence of that. We like to call it the i8 M because it should offer a major performance upgrade over the current model.
The i8 M, or whatever name BMW chooses for its upcoming hybrid sports car, will be completely new for the 2024 model year. We anticipate learning more as we come closer to the car’s release date. It is anticipated to be somewhere in 2023 as a 2024 model.

2024 BMW i8 M Engine, Transmission & Performance
BMW has stated that the new vehicle will offer a turbocharged four-cylinder in place of the i8’s 1.5-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged gas engine. Additionally, BMW claims that the new vehicle will have a total system output of 591 horsepower, which is significantly higher than the i8’s 369 horsepower. The Acura NSX, Lexus LC500h, and Polestar 1 are a few competitors that the i8 M will be able to battle with thanks to its upgraded powerplant.
Range, Charging & Battery Life
The current i8’s 18-mile electric driving range is, to put it mildly, disappointing. BMW has been tight-lipped on specifics like battery size, but the Vision M Next concept car’s electric driving range was stated to be 62 miles. Indicates that either BMW’s engineers have discovered a way to eke out significantly more mileage from the 11.6-kWh battery pack present in the current model, or they have discovered room for a substantially larger unit. The latter is likely the case.
2024 BMW i8 M Interior
We are hoping BMW solves the i8 challenging entry and exit by giving the new vehicle front-hinged doors and a lower side sill to make the interior more accessible. A front trunk (or “funk”) may appear to add more luggage room, but storage and cargo capacity are likely to remain constrained.
Coverage for Warranties and Repairs
Although there is a chance that BMW’s warranty coverage will alter between now and 2024. If current trends continue, customers should expect the same warranty package offered in the current lineup. We’re hoping BMW keeps providing a three-year comprehensive maintenance plan for all new cars and that a special hybrid-components warranty becomes a virtual certainty. The limited warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.
- 4 years or 50,000 miles of powertrain warranty coverage
- For three years or 36,000 miles, free maintenance is provided.
